Eat your way through Mandalay

Seen enough temples and pagodas to last a lifetime? The Mandalay Markets & Fine Food Tour is a unique way to experience the city — and may be just what your inner foodie needs.

Mandalay — the second largest city in Myanmar – is known for its food and unique markets showcasing eats from all around the country.

This full day tour begins at 7:00 a.m.with a local breakfast of Nan GyiThoke (thick round rice noodles with chicken curry) and a visit to the vegetable market. Continue to a lively neighbourhood where you will learn how Mandalay sweets, local cakes and noodles are made — with samples of course!

We continue to the serene countryside with a stop at a local farm to see where the country’s food comes from and a typical homemade Mandalay lunch at one of the lesser-known monasteries. Here we’ll help plant a few “Sein Ta Lone” mango trees – which will grow and produce the tasty fruit in a few years. As the Burmese saying goes: “the best time to plant a mango tree is 10 years ago — the second best time is today”.

The tour will return to the hotel around 3:00 pm – or if you haven’t had your fill, continue to the fish market for more edible experiences.
