Hike, Forage, Cook and Plunge at Kuang Si Waterfall

Looking for a fun hiking tour where collecting and catching your own food is involved? Then this one’s for you. Our newest tour leads you through the forests near Kuang Si Waterfall (30kms south of LuangPrabang in Laos), where you learn about edible herbs and vegetables growing wild – a small amount of which you need collect for your lunch. After about 90 minutes of hiking, you arrive at a scenic spot near a river, where you can learn how the locals catch fish. If you are adventurous and don’t mind getting wet, you can take the diving goggles and try to trap some fish yourself…

You also have the chance to learn about Lao cooking in a very natural style. For lunch, fish and pork are barbequed on wooden sticks, while vegetables are cooked in bamboo trunks. Salads are prepared freshly right in front of you. This feast is prepared by a team of locals who are happy to introduce you to their time-honoured way of cooking.

After this culinary inspiration, and some after-lunch relaxation Lao style, the hike carries on for another hour or so, leading to the famous Kuang Si three-tiered waterfall. There, spend the afternoon jumping into one of the pools, swimming or just enjoying the stunning scenery. Later, go and see some bears at the local sanctuary and be brought back home by tuktuk whenever you are ready.

This educational and fun tour is perfect for groups and families but can also be organized for individuals. It also includes a donation to the local community. Your local English speaking guide is more than happy to explain you what it will be used for – the community centre, the school or another project.
